What is Heritage Square and why did it come into existence?
http://heritagesquare.org/about/story
Heritage Square was the vision of Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Board. It was brought about because with urbanization and modernization, plus a growing population, Los Angeles was losing much of its architectural history in regards to the 1st 100 years of Statehood for California. These were many and varied styles of homes from the time of the Industrial Revolution.
The mission statement of the Heritage Square Museum as stated on their about story on the link above is
“To Preserve, Collect, and Interpret the architecture, physical environment, and culture of Southern California during the first 100 years of Statehood (1850 to 1950)”
Please visit the Museum’s wonderful website for more about the museum and how you can experience the history and beautiful homes.

My Viewpoint:
As a lover of history and in particular the history of Southern California and the state of California I have a keen and great appreciation for organizations such as the Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Board, now the Heritage Square Museum. I have visited and investigated many such sites all over Southern California. It is because of my experiences at previous sites that I’m always excited to visit and explore.
Old Towne San Diego, Rancho Camulos in eastern Ventura County, Mentryville in Newhall, Camarillo House in Camarillo, Ca, William Heath Davis House in San Diego, Ca are just some of the places I have had the pleasure of visiting and exploring and investigating. The experiences at these places have inspired me to seek out other such places. Places like the Heritage Square Museum.
Haunted History of Heritage Square Museum:
I personally know that many teams have investigated the museum’s homes and have reported various experiences over the years. The museum itself promotes its haunted history with its annual “Halloween Mourning Tours” and they have paranormal investigators share their experiences from Heritage Square Investigations.

There have been stories of ghost girls or children and of people falling under trances and saying strange things. Also of floors undulating like water as it seemed.
For Halloween in 1987 the LA Times in a story by Sam Hall Kaplan it was written, “The most exuberant spirits appear to reside in the Hale House, the second house south from the entry to the square on North Homer Street. A three-story extravaganza painted in authentic shades of bright greens and reds, it is said to have been designed in 1887 by Joseph Cather Newsom, a leading architect of the period.”

I can say, in our recent investigation that, the Hale House was most interesting and, we had a lively session where, Intuitive and Medium K.D. Foreman of Cal-Para Research was experiencing the spirit of a woman from the Perry House next door, She was filling K.D. in all about the Perry family and her life all that long ago. I personally could verify what K.D. was being told as, I had taken the tour that day and had learned all about the Perry’s. K.D. did not allow me to give her any details as the communication continued. But I could verify for her that most what was coming through was very accurate.

Hale House
It was a hazy sunshine day in Los Angeles and the temps were mild with the hint of possible rain. It was around 2:30 PM. I wanted to get photos of the houses in the daylight. Unfortunately, they did not allow photography inside the houses on the regular tours. Only exterior photography was left to me and I took full advantage. The tour itself was not expensive at all so I bought a ticket and tagged along. What I learned on this tour would come into play inside the first house we investigated. The Hale House.
The rest of the team arrived just before 7:00 PM as did our host for the evening. As we gathered ourselves inside the museum park, it was noted by our host that the lights were on upstairs in the Hale House. She noted that normally they are not on. I volunteered to tag along with her and we went inside and to the 2nd floor to turn off those lights. Interesting enough, the lights were on in the master bedroom. The rest of the upstairs was dark. Considering the communication which would be experienced in this room, could it be we were being guided here? Speculative reasoning, I know but, an interesting thought.
As we arrived, the host and I, into the master bedroom I sensed something as an experienced investigator which I have many times before. Energy! The room seemed full of energy. This feeling over the years to me personally has been indicative of a spiritually active location. When this energy dissipates or seems to subside then you will hear investigators refer to it as the feeling of the location changing or going flat.
I brought out a PSB-7 Spirit Box and speaker to see if we could hear any responses within the room. My digital recorder was on and I placed them all on the bed
1st Spirit Box responses Master Bedroom upstairs Initial Spirit box response after we have entered the master bedroom of the Hale House is a male voice saying “What number?”. Then I say hello and I say my name is Jerry, who are you and the next spirit box response sounds like a female saying “April”. I say “come on we just heard you and a voice, female I think says “My bedroom”. I ask, “can you tell us your name” and a male voice says “I did” Then another male voice says “Roger” and a female says “Debra”.
Note: When you see me refer to a number such as 6:30 etc., it is referring to how far into the audio recording, from a length of time aspect we are. It is not referring to the time of day.
6:30 into the recording using a Spirit Box PSB-7 a male voice says “Repeat again” and I ask say again and a female says “I did.”
7:00 into the recording still using the Spirit Box PSB-7, I ask if this is the Hale family and a female says “Who did that?” and a male responds “I did”.
8:00 into the recording two voices, male and female say “The Message. I’ll give it to them.”
8:10 I ask for a name and I get a woman saying “We’re both Hale” I ask are you a woman and she says “yes”.
9:47 I announce we’re going to leave you now and a male voice from the spirit box says “Don’t leave us”. Then I reiterate “We are going to leave you now but we may be back” and a female voice from the spirit box screams “Stop them!” I ask “Do you wish me to stay?” and a voice from the spirit box responds “Uh huh, we do.”
Captured here are responses "What Number", "April" , "My Bedroom", "Roger, "Debra
On this one "The Message I Give It To Them, the captured is kind of low in volume so wear your head phones and turn the volume up.
The above Spirit Box Capture is 'Don't Leave Us, "Stop Them", "Uh Huh, we do"
Investigator listening for communication
Hale House Continued
K.D. of Cal-Para Research is now in the master bedroom and she is communicating with a female spirit. I have begun a new audio recording with my digital recorder.
5:00 KD is communicating with Mrs. Perry from the Perry House next door but she doesn’t know it yet. I explain that what she is getting sounds like the house next door and, There is an unknown female voice, possibly EVP that says “get out”. As we continue to talk this same female asks “Who wouldn’t know me?”
These were the only two responses while KD’s communication with Mrs. Perry that I recorded. KD’s session with Mrs. Perry lasted approximately 20 minutes.

The Shaw House
Waiting to enter the Shaw House
The Shaw House was built in 1883 by a Cabinet Maker of the same name. It was moved twice before finally being placed on the museum grounds. When I toured the house during the day I learned there was a Doctor’s office on display on the south side of the house. This included the office and the examining room plus another room which was for treatment of whatever was ailing a patient. I am not clear on whether or not this doctor’s office was part of the house while it was a residence. I tend to lean toward that it was not but, perhaps when you visit the museum you can ask one of the docents.
As we were let into the house this evening I didn’t notice any energies or other anomalies that would seem out of place or clue me into anything in the way of the paranormal. The Shaw house is a good sized house but much smaller then the Hale House we were just in and the Perry residence which we would be in later in the evening.
K.D. had us gather in a circle in the parlor / dining room area of the house on the north side. We proceeded to do an exercise utilizing the PSB-7 Spirit Box and Speaker which would be sat in the middle of the room. We participated in an exercise that is geared to get interaction or responses from any spirits. We would count in order and sometimes go out of order and see if the spirits would correct us. We also did this with the Alphabet as well.
At 2:09 interestingly enough, while KD is talking here we get a voice from the spirit box with a single word. “Verboten” which is a German word for forbidden. This is defined as a word used especially by an authority. So, are we being told that some authority frowns upon spirit interaction with humans in this house?
3:08 we are going around the group counting one number per person and we occasionally go out of sequence to see if the spirits correct us. As we are counting there is a voice from the spirit box that says “That’s enough!” Next the voice says “Enough! Please leave us!” So, perhaps “Verboten” was correct?
As we continue, two voices from the spirit box, one female and one male say “Seven” and then “Twenty”. There is the voice of a boy saying “Mom” as well. I say “I thought I heard a female say twenty-one” and a voice from the spirit box says “I did”. Then another spirit box voice says “Eight” and another voice says “Hello”.
16:00 minutes into this session in the Parlor Room of the Shaw House the question is asked as to what was the name of their first child. We get 4 names. “Agnes, Kramer, Brook and Carmen” We get the word “Romantic” as well.
19:00 minutes into this session at the Shaw House, the question was asked of how many nurses did the Doctor have helping him? The spirit box voice of what sounds like an older woman says “Four”.

The above spirit box responses are Agnes, Kramer, Romantic, Brooke and Carmen.
Of special note is the ladies spoke of feeling extremely cold air upon their legs and feet. I possessed a FLIR TG165 surface thermometer which measures the temps of surface areas and also can take single snapshot images. I took several snapshots during this time and came up with a very interesting one of what looks like the profile of an older, balding man. He must have been on the floor because that is where my thermal imager was aimed. Bear in mind that matrixing where the mind thinks it sees familiar shapes is certainly a possibility here. These images are presented as things of interest and not as proof of ghosts. You decide for yourself.
The profile of the older man is to the left lower corner.
Here is an enlargement of the profile of the older man.
Octagon House
In 1844, Orson Squire Fowler an architect amongst other things came up with the idea of house which were octagon shaped. His reason was this shaped house would provide ample room to its occupants which could be most useful. One feature of the house was a design that allowed the air to come in from the outside and circulate in the house.
This particular Octagon house was built by a man named Longfellow who migrated to Los Angeles from the east. The last family member to live in this house made a deal with what is now the Heritage Square Museum and when he vacated the house it became the property of the museum.
We entered the house and settled in the sewing room. About a little over 2 minutes into this recording there are two unknown voices. First voice, a male says “Welcome home” and the second voice a female says “No”.
Over 3 minutes in and I have turned on the Ghost Radio ITC App. KD is asking me about the app when we get a male voice we did not understand at the time. Upon review and adjustment of the pitch it very clearly says “I killed him”. I wish we had understood this at the time as it would have led to some interesting questions. I asked, “Ok, who are you?” The answer was “Wayne” which some of us heard clearly. The voice from Ghost Radio next answered “My honored name”.
14:20 as we sit in the Sewing Room discussing the merits of ITC we get a female voice on the Ghost Radio that says “Investment”. Immediately following that is disturbing and strange “growl”. I do not recall any such noise or any of the investigators making such a noise at the time. It does not sound like it came from the Ghost Radio App.
The Perry House as viewed from the street in the early evening.
Perry House
Despite all the interesting communication that KD was picking up on earlier in the night in the Hale House. I recorded one interesting sound of a female wailing in the house. It was somewhat humorous and interesting. I have no idea of who or what it was.
Again we did get the sense of cold air spots being felt by various investigators. Again I took random readings and photos with the TG165 FLIR Imager. I captured the following.

We are not sure about this wailing woman. It is still being looked into and if there is an update I will post it. Right now we do not recall hearing this during our time in the Perry House.
This image was captured while using my FLIR TG165 Thermometer Imager. The investigators had reported cold spots and this random image was captured while checking that. Could it be matrixing? Of course it could. Logically Spirits should or could be colder then their surroundings and would appear darker such as black, blue, purple etc. This is not presented as proof of ghosts. You decided for yourself but it appears to be the image of a man who is waving at me.
In summary, this is my first investigation of the Heritage Square Museum grounds and the houses there. We did get some interesting responses which only add to what investigators have experienced there previously. I feel that only the surface of what may be there from a paranormal standpoint has been experienced. I look forward to delving further into the mysteries of the Heritage Square Museum.
