Before I get started here, I would like to thank Maritza Skandunas the founder of the San Diego Ghost Hunters, the S.O.H.O. organization of San Diego and Victor Santana the Icon Docent and good friend who has been instrumental in cultivating my initial interest in the Whaley House. Without their friendship none of this would be possible.
The Whaley House, of which, none other than well known Paranormal Investigator and author, Hans Holzer called it one of the most actively haunted houses in the world.
The Whaley House, if you're a paranormal investigator in Southern California as I am, is a must visit and must investigate. When you visit or investigate the Whaley House be prepared to meet the family. I have, more than a few times. Thomas Whaley and his lovely bride Anna. Their daughter Violet who committed suicide over a failed marriage and died in the house. Little Thomas the second born who only lived until he was 18 months old. Francis, the oldest child and son who returned the family to the house and restored it. He actually ran tours there and played the guitar for his customers. Matriarch Anna Whaley passed away in the house in 1913. Oldest son Francis in 1914. The youngest daughter, Corrine Lillian lived alone in the house until 1953 when she passed away. And there is also a little neighbor girl. She suffered an accident while playing and was brought inside the house where she passed away.
So far the count is ten (10) known spirits who haunt the house. Mr. Whaley, his wife Anna, their son Francis, little Thomas, their daughters Violet and Corrine Lillian, the little neighbor girl and Yankee Jim Robinson who was hung on the site the house is built on. And let us not forget Mr. Tanner who had a theater troop that entertained the citizens of Old Towne San Diego in what was an upstairs front bedroom and is now referred to as the theater room.
Now if you count animal spirits then make it eleven (11). A family dog, believed to be a terrier breed has been seen and heard from time to time.
The haunted reputation of the Whaley House is well known among pop culture today. You only visit this place for one reason. The ghosts! There is the historical contribution of Mr. Whaley to the growth of San Diego as a community but, much like the RMS Queen Mary which sits 106 miles to the north of San Diego in Long Beach California, the Whaley House and its ghosts attract people from all over the world.

In 2008 it was my good fortune and pleasure to begin four years of assisting good friend Patrick Wheelock of Beyond Investigation Magazine on the RMS Queen Mary every Friday night with the Midnight Paranormal Investigation. Something I refer to as The Midnight Ghost Tour. It was through this that I met a member of the San Diego Ghost Hunters and I was invited to visit the Whaley House during their monthly tour. Not to get too far ahead of myself, I actually visited Old Towne San Diego in November 2008.
I was there one November night in 2008. My purpose was to attend a paranormal walking tour of Old Towne and then later investigate an old park which sits above Old Towne in a residential neighborhood. This park use to be part of the Catholic Church and a cemetery until it was donated to the City of San Diego by the church in the 1970s. Thousands of early San Diego residents from what I am told are still buried beneath the grass at this park where people walk their dogs and children play every day. There are a couple of large plaques with the names of those buried and in the very left hand corner are multiple grave markers, large and small with the names of people buried there.
The fellow who was leading the tour is named Michael Brown and I believe he still leads these tours / investigations in Old Towne even today. He is very good and gives you his full attention and is quite knowledgeable.
And now for some of my captured evidence.
November of 2008 I captured my first real ghost picture. Now, understand that most investigators are skeptical in regards to photography One former associate of mine who is quite stubborn on the subject refers to any images in a photograph purported (his favorite word) to be paranormal as "Pixel People" That is his phrase as well.
I call this picture "Our Lady of Old Towne". She, in my estimation anyways, appears to be a young woman dressed in a Spanish style blouse and skirt. The blouse has a low and square neckline and skirt is long and to her feet. I had taken some random photos of the grass area of the town square. As I recall it was early evening. There was nobody in the area that appears in the photograph. I remembered taking these photos and was quite stunned to see her there. I was excited as well. Now my former associate will tell you its matixing but like I said he is closed minded when it comes to photos from others. I have never attempted to debunk this image. I do not know how I could. So it is for you the beholder to decide for yourself. This photo is presented as a picture of interest and not as proof of ghosts.

This is the original photo. You can see our lady just to the left of center and to the right of that bench on the left.
Here is the same photo of our lady except I zoomed in and cropped the photo and brightened her image. If you notice, she is somewhat transparent.
This was taken on the same night as the Our Lady of Old Towne. It is the window on the east side of the Whaley House, close to 9:00 PM at night. This was November 22, 2008 the weekend before Thanksgiving 2008. I remember my impression was the house was closed for the night. Keep in mind the woman and other person captured in this picture in this window may be flesh and blood. I do not know for sure but this was 7 years ago and as I recall the house seemed closed. If the lady is a docent, she is dressed in period costume of the 1800s.
Zoomed in version of the above photo. As you can see, she appears to be standing behind someone who is much closer to the wind and who's head can be seen on the right, near the center window trim.
Here I have added sepia tone to the subjects to make them standout. As you can see there is a face to the right of center of the window. This face appears to be much older than the woman to the left. Whom ever it is they appear to be looking out the window. The house appeared to be closed for the evening. It was only 9:00 PM but, this was the weekend before Thanksgiving and I believe the house is closed in November for the holidays. Still, one never knows for sure.
Captured during my first visit to the Whaley House in February of 2009. I was a guest of the San Diego Ghost Hunters and the house. My camera was set up at the top of the stairs by both the Master Bedroom and the Theater Room. About 40 seconds into this video you will hear an older woman yelling. It is not clear as to what she is saying. It is my belief this is Mrs. Whaley and she is not pleased with all the people in her house this night.
July 31, 2009, investigating the Whaley House, I was walking into the Theater Room with my video feature recording on my dslr camera. As I walked into the Theater Room I turned to my left and this unusual anomaly caught my eye. While still recording I walked towards it. It must have been a couple of minutes I observed it. I had no opinion as to what I was looking at except it was unusual. The only light source in the Theater Room was the overhead lamp. I was not using any external light as the room was already lighted. From a logical standpoint it is light reflecting off the wall. This is for lack of a better explanation. I can only tell you, that when I observed this live and in person it seemed more than that.
During review of this video, it appeared to me that the anomaly would change into different faces and some of these faces looked like they were speaking. The head would bob or nod and the mouth was moving.
What ever it may have seemed to me to be doing, there is no claim of paranormal or ghost here by me.
I have no idea as to what it is and it may be a light reflection. Could be matrixing or something else.
You decide for yourself what you think it is.

May 2010, Violet Whaley may be one of the more recorded spirits in the Whaley House. A sad story of love gone wrong and a tragic ending due to the break up of an unhappy marriage. She died in her father's arms in the parlor of the Whaley House, after putting a bullet into her heart.
The disembodied voice of Violet Whaley. In this 2013 investigation she confesses she never really loved the man she married. We at first thought this was a voice coming from outside the house. Both I and the docent heard this but we did not understand what it said. Upon review it became very clear. Wear your head phones and turn up the volume.
Thomas Whaley has made himself known on many occasions to myself and others. A man who has three daughters perhaps he takes special delight in interacting with young people such as my daughter who asks if he is here with us in the room. Wear your headphones and turn the volume up as the EVP is very soft.
Sometimes the family likes their privacy and they will even fill you in on what they are doing. In this case they are waiting for Jesus.
Back in July 2009 I was an invited guest to come investigate the Whaley House with the San Diego Ghost Hunters. While I was exploring the 2nd floor upstairs I wondered into the Theater Room. As I did so I was running video on my dslr camera. As I walked into the room I panned to my left and saw an anomaly form directly in front of me. Saw it with my own eyes and dimly lit room. No, I did not have an external light illuminated on my camera. I did not need one as the room had light. Watching this anomaly live I felt there was something odd about it and I continued to watch. I walked toward it, recording all the while. It is going on 6 years now so, I do not remember everything about the experience but nonetheless it made quite an impression on me. I have showed the video to various fellow investigators over the years and the best they can do is ask if I had an external light on my camera. I created a video analyzing the anomaly and you can view it on this page if you scroll up.
So, why recreate the video? Because this time the focus is a unknown female voice which seems to be warning me off while I was recording this. I did not notice or hear this voice at the time and a few years ago I was too focused on the anomaly to think about listening to the audio. It is only now that I have heard this warning and I share it hear with all who happen on to my website and this page.
So, feel free to take a listen and decide for yourself.
